Local privilege escalation via unchecked file path
Published Jul 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Path traversal in Android 12 and 12L CallLogProvider allows local users to escalate privileges through a crafted file path. CallLogProvider.java's openFile method accepted paths outside the Call Composer directory without verifying that the resolved target remained within that directory. Reachability requires user-level code execution but no user interaction, and successful exploitation grants file access beyond the provider's intended permission boundary.
