Privilege escalation via overlayable settings toggle
Published Jan 24, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025
Tapjacking in the Android Car Settings app in Android 10 through 12 allows attackers to enable system-setting changes without consent. The Modify system settings screen leaves its toggle exposed to application overlays, so a deceptive layer redirects a user's tap to the hidden control. Exploitation requires a malicious application on the device and user interaction; the granted access lets that application modify system settings.
