Local privilege escalation via unchecked bug-report receivers
Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in Android 12L DevicePolicyManagerService allows local users to escalate privileges by falsifying remote bug reports. The registerRemoteBugreportReceivers method omits a permission check when registering receivers, permitting falsified remote bug reports. Exploitation requires existing low-privilege local access but no user interaction; the consequence is privilege escalation on the affected device.
