CVE-2022-20180

Local privilege escalation via missing bounds checks

Published Aug 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds access in Android kernel Mali gralloc allows local users with User privileges to execute arbitrary code. Several functions in mali_gralloc_reference.cpp fail to bounds-check untrusted values before memory access, enabling execution beyond the caller's intended privilege boundary. Exploitation requires existing User execution privileges and no user interaction, and successful abuse escalates privileges on an affected Pixel device.
