Local privilege escalation via PendingIntent unwrapping
Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Intent redirection in Google Cloud Android 12 and 12L SystemUI allows local users to escalate privileges through a crafted call notification. OngoingCallController.onEntryUpdated unwraps the content PendingIntent and launches its attacker-controlled inner Intent with SystemUI authority. User-level code can reach the path without user interaction, including targets that are non-exported to the calling application.
