Guest-user DNS modification via missing availability restriction
Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in Android 10 through 12L allows local users in guest sessions to change private DNS settings without interaction. PrivateDnsPreferenceController.getAvailabilityStatus marks the setting available without checking UserManager.isGuestUser(). A guest session is required, and the documented consequence is unauthorized DNS reconfiguration that can disrupt device connectivity.
