Local privilege escalation via aee use-after-free race
Published May 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in MediaTek's aee driver on Android 11.0 and 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. Concurrent access races the driver's object-lifetime handling, allowing code to reference an object after its memory has been freed. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges, and no user interaction is needed to trigger the local privilege gain.
