Local privilege escalation via symlink following
Published Mar 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Elevation of privilege in MediaTek connsyslogger on Android 11.0 and 12.0 allows local users to gain System execution privileges via symlink following. The connsyslogger component improperly resolves symbolic links, allowing a local attacker to redirect privileged file operations to unintended targets. Exploitation requires local access but no user interaction, and successful exploitation can elevate execution privileges to the Android System level.
