CVE-2022-20009

Local privilege escalation via unchecked descriptor index

Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Android kernel USB gadget code allows local users to escalate privileges via a crafted OS descriptor request. In composite_setup, the request's low-byte interface number indexes os_desc_cfg->interface without first checking MAX_CONFIG_INTERFACES or a null entry. Reaching the flaw requires submission of a USB gadget control request; exploitation needs no user interaction or additional execution privileges.
