Local privilege escalation via spoofed calling package
Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper authorization in Android 10 through 12L allows local users to gain privileges by requesting access to an arbitrary slice URI. SliceManagerService.checkSlicePermission trusts a caller-supplied package identity and auto-grants slice access without verifying that identity against the calling UID. A malicious app with user execution privileges can spoof the package name and acquire slice access without user interaction.
