CVE-2022-1987

Out-of-bounds memory read via unterminated index entry label

Published Jun 3, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Buffer over-read in bfabiszewski libmobi before 0.11 allows attackers to read past an index-label buffer via a crafted MOBI file. In mobi_parse_index_entry in src/index.c, a corrupt maximum-length index label fills text without in-bounds space for its null terminator, so string use reads past the array. Opening the crafted file supplies the required user interaction; published assessments bound consequences to memory disclosure or a parser crash, with no integrity impact reported.
