Stored XSS via unsanitized SVG uploads
Published Jun 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Benjamin Zekavica Easy SVG Support before 3.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to inject script via SVG uploads. The media-library upload path accepts SVG files containing script elements without sanitizing their markup, and WordPress serves the stored file directly. Author-level access is sufficient to plant the file, and the payload runs when another user opens its upload URL, allowing script execution in that site's origin.
