CVE-2022-1954Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Instance hang via webhook response-header backtracking

Published Jul 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Regular expression denial of service in affected GitLab CE/EE releases allows remote authenticated users to hang a GitLab instance. Ruby net/http trims each response-header line with an end-anchored whitespace regex whose unanchored search backtracks quadratically over long internal spaces. Exploitation requires a configured webhook or integration to contact an attacker-controlled server; its crafted response can pin a Sidekiq job at full CPU and interrupt service.
