CVE-2022-1923

Application crash via unchecked bzip decompression growth

Published Jul 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Integer overflow in GStreamer Good Plug-ins before 1.20.3 allows context-dependent attackers to crash applications via crafted Matroska files. The gst_matroska_decompress_data function grows bzip2 output in 4,096-byte increments without overflow bounds and miscalculates the remaining output span. The consuming application must process the file; mmap-backed allocation leads to an unmapped-memory crash, while other allocator and OS combinations permit a heap overwrite.
