Crash via freed search pattern reuse
Published May 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in Vim before 8.2.5024 allows local users to crash the editor by invoking a definition search after changing a line. The nv_brackets path passes a pointer into the current line to find_pattern_in_path, although that search can change the line and free the pointed-to memory. Exploitation requires user interaction with the ]d definition-search command; Debian classifies the demonstrated consequence as a command-line editor crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
