CVE-2022-1890

Local code execution via malformed NVRAM variable

Published Jan 23, 2023 · Updated Apr 1, 2025

Heap-based buffer overflow in Lenovo Notebook BIOS allows local users with high privileges to execute arbitrary code during boot. ReadyBootDxe trusts an unvalidated DataSize value while processing a crafted System NVRAM variable, causing the second GetVariable call to overflow its destination buffer. High local privileges are required, and successful exploitation provides arbitrary code execution during the early boot phase.
