Stored XSS via unescaped preheader text
Published Jun 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Newsletter before 7.4.6 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through the preheader_text setting. The plugin stores that setting without sanitizing it and renders the value without output escaping, so embedded script executes when an injected newsletter page is opened. Administrator-level access is required, and exposure is limited to multisite installations or sites where unfiltered_html is disabled.
