Downloads policy bypass via malicious extension
Published Jul 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Insufficient policy enforcement in Google Chrome before 102.0.5005.61 allows attackers with a malicious extension to bypass downloads policy. The public Chrome advisory identifies the Extensions API but does not disclose the affected function or the policy check omitted when handling the page. Exploitation requires a user to install an attacker-supplied extension and then load crafted content, after which downloads blocked by enterprise policy can proceed.
