Unintended remote-service exposure via system-wide autostart
Published Jan 31, 2025 · Updated Feb 7, 2025
Configuration error in Canonical GNOME Control Center before 42.1.1-2ubuntu1 allows remote attackers to reach desktop-sharing services. Ubuntu packaging installs a system-wide gnome-remote-desktop service symlink instead of relying on the per-user symlink controlled by Settings. On affected Ubuntu 22.04 systems, an RDP listener can return after reboot even when desktop sharing was turned off.
