CVE-2022-1735Public exploit

Crash via stale Visual-mode selection position

Published May 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Classic buffer overflow in Vim before 8.2.4969 allows local users to trigger invalid memory access through Visual-mode text changes. Text-changing paths leave the Visual selection position beyond the shortened line or buffer, and later logic reads past valid text. Exploitation requires crafted Visual-mode editing steps; the demonstrated consequence is an application crash or invalid read.
