CVE-2022-1734

Local code execution via NFC driver teardown race

Published May 18, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Use-after-free in the Marvell NFC driver in Linux Kernel before 5.18-rc6 allows local users to crash the system or execute code. nfcmrvl_nci_unregister_dev frees firmware and GPIO resources before nci_unregister_device synchronizes teardown, so concurrent firmware-download code dereferences released state. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access, the affected NFC driver, and winning the teardown-versus-download race; impact is bounded to a system crash or kernel-context code execution.
