Login endpoint change via nonce-free settings write
Published Jul 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site request forgery in Rename wp-login.php 2.6.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to change a site's secret login URL. The admin_init method accepts an rwl_page POST to wp-admin/options-permalink.php and writes the sanitized value with update_option without verifying a nonce. A logged-in administrator must be induced to load attacker-controlled content, after which the changed endpoint can prevent access through the expected login URL.
