Browser script execution via unescaped AJAX fieldId
Published Jun 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reflected XSS in Simple Membership before 4.1.1 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser through AJAX requests. The swpm_validate_email and swpm_validate_user_name AJAX actions return the fieldId query parameter without adequate sanitization or output escaping. No authentication is required, but execution depends on a user following a crafted URL; the script runs in the affected site's origin and can read or alter browser-accessible data.
