Privilege escalation via unchecked group permission assignment
Published May 12, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authentication bypass in Requarks Wiki.js before 2.5.281 allows remote authenticated users to gain root permissions through a crafted GraphQL group update. The server/graph/resolvers/group.js resolver failed to stop users with manage:groups from assigning the manage:system permission to a group. A user must already hold manage:groups, after which the assignment grants root-level administration with confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
