Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked template uninstall
Published Jun 13, 2022 · Updated Jan 31, 2025
Privilege escalation in Artbees Jupiter before 6.10.2 and Jupiter X Core before 2.0.8 allows remote authenticated users to become administrators. The exposed template-uninstall AJAX actions invoke uninstallTemplate without capability or nonce checks, and resetWordpressDatabase reinstalls the site with the caller as its owner. Subscriber-level access is enough to replace the existing owner with the attacker's account and take administrative control of the WordPress site.
