CVE-2022-1652

Kernel code execution via floppy request race

Published May 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Use-after-free in the Linux Kernel floppy driver through 5.17.5 allows local users to execute arbitrary code or crash the system. floppy_end_request frees current_req while reset_interrupt concurrently retains and accesses its error_count member in bad_flp_intr. Local low-privileged access and a reachable floppy-device path are required; exploitation executes code in kernel context or crashes the host.
