Anti-spam bypass via spoofed forwarding headers
Published Jun 20, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Authorization bypass in Lester Chan WP-EMail before 2.69.0 allows remote attackers to evade IP-based anti-spam limits. The get_email_ipaddress() function trusts attacker-supplied HTTP_CLIENT_IP, HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR, and related forwarding headers ahead of REMOTE_ADDR. Unauthenticated visitors can rotate the claimed source address and repeatedly invoke the public email action, enabling spam rather than data access or code execution.
