Unauthorized file modification via unlocked filesystem
Published Sep 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper filesystem locking in HP ThinPro OS 7.2 SP8 and 7.2 SP9 upgraded from SP8 allows local users to modify protected files. Installing SP8 leaves the normally locked filesystem unlocked, and upgrading that installation to SP9 does not restore the lock. Exploitation requires low-privilege local access and user interaction; UNIX permissions remain enforced, limiting modification to files writable under those permissions.
