Subscriber-level arbitrary file deletion via unchecked path
Published Jun 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in HTML2WP 1.0.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary files through an AJAX action. The html_actions action accepts a base64-encoded path in a remove_html request and deletes the referenced file without capability or CSRF checks. Subscriber-level WordPress access is sufficient, and the published proof of concept deletes a file from the site root.
