Superuser SQL execution via delayed sandboxing
Published Aug 31, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in PostgreSQL 10 through 14 allows remote authenticated users to execute SQL functions as a superuser. Autovacuum, REINDEX, CREATE INDEX, REFRESH MATERIALIZED VIEW, CLUSTER, and pg_amcheck activate security-restricted-operation protections too late or not at all while processing attacker-created objects. Exploitation requires CREATE permission for non-temporary objects in a schema and can expose, alter, or interrupt data under the bootstrap superuser identity.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=Fixed in postgresql 14.3, postgresql 13.7, postgresql 12.11, postgresql 11.16, postgresql 10.21.
