CVE-2022-1431Public exploitNetwork attack vector

PyPI API interruption via unvalidated package digest

Published May 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Denial of service in GitLab 12.10 through 14.8.5, 14.9 through 14.9.3, and 14.10.0 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt the PyPI Simple API. The upload endpoint accepts an unvalidated sha256_digest, which PackagePresenter passes into URI::Generic.build while rendering file links; invalid path characters raise an exception and return HTTP 500. A user able to upload a package can persist the malformed digest, causing requests for that package's Simple API index to fail while package downloads remain available.
