CVE-2022-1420

Editor crash via unchecked numeric lambda reference

Published Apr 21, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-range pointer use in Vim before 8.2.4774 allows local users to crash the editor by invoking a numeric value as a lambda. The eval_lambda function in src/eval.c accepts a parenthesized arrow-expression result without verifying that it is a string, function, or partial. Execution requires evaluation of a crafted arrow-call expression; the demonstrated consequence is a Vim process crash, not code execution.
