Contributor-level stored XSS via unsanitized post meta
Published May 16, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Ben Huson WP Subtitle before 3.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript via subtitle post meta. The AJAX custom-field update path stores wps_subtitle without the sanitization applied during normal post saves, and the shortcode later renders that value. Contributor access can plant the payload, while execution requires another user to view or preview the affected post.
