CVE-2022-1304

Utility crash via malformed extent-tree counts

Published Apr 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in E2fsprogs Project e2fsprogs 1.46.5 allows local users to crash utilities via a crafted filesystem. libext2fs accepts a leaf with zero extents or a negative remaining-entry count, then traverses invalid data or passes an unsound length to memmove. Processing attacker-supplied filesystem data requires user interaction; the demonstrated consequence is a segmentation fault, while code execution is unconfirmed.
