System-level process execution via exposed IPersistFile functions
Published May 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Improper access control in all versions of Honeywell Matrikon OPC Server allows remote authenticated users to execute system-level processes. The server exposes IPersistFile functions to low-privileged OPC users and invokes operating system processes with SYSTEM privileges. A low-privileged OPC connection and user interaction are required; successful exploitation permits arbitrary process execution.
