Stored XSS via lowercased embedded SVG links
Published Apr 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stored XSS in PlantUML before 1.2022.4 allows remote attackers to execute script when generated SVG is embedded in a web page. UImageSvg.clean lowercases and strips whitespace from untrusted SVG for element checks, then returns that altered markup instead of the original input. Exploitation requires a consuming application to embed the SVG and a victim to interact with its attacker-controlled content; consequences remain within the embedding context.
