Arbitrary option changes via unchecked AJAX update
Published May 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Missing authorization in Content Mask before 1.8.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to modify arbitrary WordPress options via AJAX. The update_content_mask_option action accepts an attacker-controlled option name and value without a capability check or plugin-option allowlist. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to alter site configuration outside the plugin's intended settings.
