CVE-2022-1172Public exploit

Process crash via stale BIFS buffer length

Published Mar 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Null pointer dereference in GPAC before 2.1.0-DEV allows local users to crash MP4Box by processing a crafted media file. During BIFS scene decoding, gf_bifs_dec_sf_field frees sfcb->buffer but leaves bufferSize nonzero, so gf_bifs_flush_command_list constructs a bitstream around a null buffer and BS_ReadByte dereferences it. Triggering the fault requires a user to run MP4Box with the crafted file and interrupts only that process; no code execution or data disclosure is reported.
