CVE-2022-1108

Elevated code execution via unvalidated SMI buffer

Published Apr 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Improper buffer validation in Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS allows local users with elevated privileges to execute arbitrary code in SMM. The LenovoFlashDeviceInterface SMI handler processes an attacker-controlled buffer without proper validation before using it in System Management Mode. Exploitation requires local access and elevated privileges on a ThinkPad X1 Fold Gen 1, and successful code execution can compromise firmware-level confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
