Administrator-session script execution via unescaped preset fields
Published May 30, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Reflected XSS in WPMU DEV Smush before 3.9.9 allows remote attackers to run script in an administrator's browser via a preset upload. The configuration importer returns unsanitized preset names, descriptions, and status strings in the Smush Settings admin page. Exploitation requires a WordPress administrator to upload the attacker's modified configuration file; successful script execution can act with that administrator's browser session.
