CVE-2022-0924Public exploit

Process crash via non-byte-aligned sample handling

Published Mar 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in LibTIFF 4.3.0 tiffcp allows attackers to crash the utility via a crafted TIFF file that it processes. cpContigBufToSeparateBuf assumes each sample occupies an integral number of bytes, so sub-byte BitsPerSample values advance its input pointer beyond the allocated heap buffer. Execution requires a user or calling process to pass the file to tiffcp with contiguous-to-separate conversion options, and the demonstrated consequence is a process abort.
