Process crash via unchecked allocation failure
Published Mar 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in LibTIFF tiffcrop 4.3.0 allows local users to crash the utility by processing a crafted TIFF file. The createImageSection and createCroppedImage paths pass a NULL limitMalloc result to _TIFFmemset instead of stopping after allocation failure. A local user or application must process an attacker-supplied TIFF with tiffcrop; a failed oversized allocation then terminates that tiffcrop process.
