CVE-2022-0881Network attack vector

EXIF metadata disclosure via unstripped uploads

Published Mar 9, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Insecure image storage in Framasoft PeerTube before 4.1.1 allows remote attackers to read sensitive EXIF metadata from served images. The image helper could copy or resize uploaded JPEG and PNG files without clearing Jimp's exifBuffer, leaving embedded metadata in the output. Exposure begins when an authenticated user uploads an image containing EXIF data; any remote requester able to fetch the resulting image can read the retained metadata.
