CVE-2022-0856Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process crash via zero-dimension image geometry

Published Mar 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Divide by zero in img2txt in Caca Labs libcaca 0.99.beta20 allows remote attackers to crash the utility via a crafted image. The main routine accepts an image with a zero width or height and divides by that dimension while calculating output geometry. Exploitation requires a user or automated workflow to pass the malicious image to img2txt, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination rather than code execution or data loss.
