Protected-file disclosure via predictable master keys
Published Apr 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Weak key generation in W3 Eden WordPress Download Manager before 3.2.34 allows remote attackers to access protected downloads. The download master-key generator derives each key with PHP uniqid() from a public post timestamp, leaving at most one million candidates. No authentication is required; a matching key returns the file despite role or password restrictions, exposing only downloads whose identifiers and timestamps are reachable.
