Authenticated file enumeration via unchecked AJAX filepath
Published Jun 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Path traversal in User Meta before 2.4.4 allows remote authenticated users to enumerate local server files through an AJAX request. The um_show_uploaded_file action accepts an unchecked filepath and reveals file existence by returning um_remove_file for traversal-selected paths. Subscriber access to a page or post containing a File Upload field is sufficient; the response exposes whether chosen server paths exist but not their contents.
