Kubernetes API interception via VERIFY_NONE default
Published Mar 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Improper certificate validation in Kubeclient before 4.9.3 allows remote attackers to intercept Kubernetes API connections via man-in-the-middle attacks. Kubeclient::Config sets ssl_options[:verify_ssl] to VERIFY_NONE when kubeconfig lacks a custom CA, so TLS certificates are not checked against the system trust store. The attack requires a network position between the Ruby application and Kubernetes API; intercepted credentials and responses can enable actions available to the application.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
