Unauthorized Asana task closure via substring branch matching
Published Apr 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Incorrect authorization in GitLab's Asana branch restriction allows remote authenticated users to close tasks from unauthorized branches. The integration treats the comma-separated restriction as one string and uses substring matching, so short branch names can match inside an allowed name. Exploitation requires an enabled Asana integration with branch restriction; Developer-level access is sufficient to push a task-closing commit.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
