CVE-2022-0714Public exploit

Application crash via unchecked vartabstop line traversal

Published Feb 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in Vim before 8.2.4436 allows attackers to crash the editor by triggering a malformed vartabstop operation. In change_indent(), cursor-column traversal advances beyond the line terminator under a large vartabstop value, then passes an out-of-range pointer to lbr_chartabsize(). Triggering the fault requires local user interaction with crafted editing input; the grounded impact is a Vim process crash, not demonstrated code execution.
