Information disclosure via quickfix buffer replacement
Published Feb 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-range pointer access in Vim before 8.2.4327 allows attackers to disclose process memory via crafted buffer-deletion commands. The do_buffer_ext function can select a quickfix buffer as the replacement while deleting the current buffer, even though that quickfix buffer is then deleted, leaving the current-buffer pointer invalid. Execution requires a user to load attacker-controlled Vim commands; the resulting invalid state permits illegal memory access and sensitive-memory disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
